Circumcision: The Sign of God’s Covenant
The historic Christian Church has traditionally associated the Number 8 with the entrance into the Covenant of God. This understanding comes from God Himself who commanded Circumcision - the Sign of the Covenant - to be performed on the Eighth Day. God used the same language - (Oath B’rit, Sign of the Covenant) - when He gave the Rainbow (Genesis 9.13):
The letter Chet represents a fence, hedge, wall, or enclosure. This coheres with its ancient form that looks like two fence poles with two (or three) rails, which gave rise to the Greek and Latin forms of the letter H.
Most scholars, while acknowledging this traditional understanding, express some uncertainty about its origin because the name Chet does not directly correspond to any Hebrew word. Gesenius, in his seminal Hebrew-Chaldee Lexicon to the Old Testament, suggests that the name (Chet) is actually from the root (Chetz, Wall, S# H2434), there being a slight phonetic variation in the exchange of Tsaddi for Tav. Chetz is from the KeyWord Chatzah (Divide, see below). The symbolic meaning of Chet as an enclosure, wall, fence, or refuge is the basis of many KeyWords God used in the Chet alphabetic verses below. Chanun: Gracious
Ps 145.8: The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.
Ps 111.4b: … the LORD is gracious and full of compassion.
Ps 112.4b: … he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.

I won’t just leave you with that, let me also say that if there are any Worship Leaders out there, art directors, or artists who have done anything from the stage, then I hope you got to see the opening to the Olympics tonight on 8.8.8. It was one of the most unbelievable stage sets I have ever seen, and it was powered by humans and custume. Outside of the fireworks that opened the show, the bulk of the opening ceremony spectacular stage set was powered with many volunteers and a great wardrobe. The use of lights with people was crazy. How many people do you have to pull together for a Sunday service? How difficult is it to get 10-20 people doing the same thing at the same time on stage, or even at the right times? This show was great. I hope you got to enjoy it!
